Specialist Areas: 

Michael specialises in building and construction disputes. He works with members of the Electrical and Communications Association (ECA), Master Plumbers Association of Queensland (MPAQ), Air Conditioning and Mechanical Contractors’ Association of Queensland Limited (AMCA) and the National Fire Industry Association of Queensland (NFIAQ) as well as members of various other trade associations.

Michael is often a guest speaker at building and construction industry seminars on topics such as the Building and Construction Industry Payments Act (BCIPA) and Subcontractors Charges. He is a registered Adjudicator under the BCIPA.

Career Summary:

Michael joined McKays Solicitors in November 1997 after ten years of prior experience. He worked for a medium sized Brisbane firm between 1987 and 1995, which included his articles of clerkship. During that period he gained a wide range of experience in many areas including criminal law, administrative law, sports law and general litigation including debt recovery and commercial disputes.


Michael has an interest in the area of administrative law having worked for the Commonwealth Department of Health & Family Services between 1995 and 1997 as a legal officer. During that period he gained extensive experience in government contracts and tendering, grants and administrative law.
Michael was elected President of the Queensland Council for Civil Liberties in April 2005.
